Ranking: Germany’s Fastest-Growing Mid-Sized Companies 2025

For the 16th time, Munich Strategy, in cooperation with business newspaper Handelsblatt, has identified Germany’s fastest-growing and most profitable mid-sized companies. The leading performers demonstrate that sustainable growth is possible even in challenging economic conditions.

Munich Strategy analyzed more than 8,000 German companies from various industries with annual revenues between €10 million and €1 billion. Based on the average revenuegrowth and EBIT margin from 2020 to 2024, the “TOP 100” Mittelstand companies of 2025 were determined. They combine continuous growth with financial stability and a strong outlook for the future.

A class of their own

The TOP 100 once again represent the leading edge of the German Mittelstand in 2025. With an average annual revenue growth of 16% and an EBIT margin of 15.9%, they rank among the top 1% of Germany’s fastest-growing and most profitable mid-sized companies. Their solid equity ratio of 58% makes them less dependent on external financing and enables them to invest in future projects and growth, even in uncertain times.

Strength in times of uncertainty

Resilience has replaced pure efficiency: the TOP 100 diversify their supply chains, invest in digitalization and AI and build strategic buffers. This allows them to remain strong amid geopolitical tensions, energy price fluctuations and labor shortages.

Technology and mechanical engineering drive growth

With 24% technology companies and 23% machinery and plant engineering firms, these two industries once again make up the largest share of the ranking.

A Mittelstand in Transition

The TOP 100 illustrate how the Mittelstand is transforming – moving away from traditional manufacturing toward high technology, software, pharmaceuticals and services. Growth is emerging where innovation, internationalization and strategic foresight intersect.
