Ranking: Germany’s Fastest-Growing Mid-Sized Companies 2024

In cooperation with business newspaper Handelsblatt, Munich Strategy has identified Germany’s 100 fastest-growing and most profitable mid-sized companies for the 15th time. The strongest companies are defying increasingly challenging economic conditions.

Munich Strategy analyzed over 8,000 German companies from various industries with annual revenues between 10 million and 1 billion euros. Based on average revenue growth and EBIT margin over the past five years, the “TOP 100” mid-sized companies of 2024 were determined. These companies stand out not only for their consistent growth but also for their strong profitability.

A class of their own

The TOP 100, with their revenue growth and profit margins, form the spearhead of the German mid-sized sector. They represent the top 1% of mid-sized companies in terms of growth and profitability.

The “Mittelstand” is dividing

The TOP 100 have further widened the gap in revenue growth between themselves, the rest of the mid-sized companies, and DAX-listed corporations. They have significantly increased their revenue growth over the past five years, growing by an average of 16.8% per year.

Relatively stable despite challenging conditions

The average profit margin of the TOP 100 slightly declined in 2024 – from 17.1% in 2023 to 16.4% in 2024. The equity ratio of the TOP 100 remains stable at 59%.

Technology companies and machinery and plant manufacturers as the strongest sectors

As in previous years, the technology sector (23 companies) and machinery and plant manufacturing (20 companies) account for the majority of the “TOP 100” companies. The construction industry (18 companies) has gained momentum, with 7 more companies in the ranking compared to the previous year. However, this increase is partly due to rising material prices after the COVID-19 pandemic, which boosted revenues.
